What it costs

Red lightany violation$50——official page
School-zone speedany violation$50——official page

Camera violations have no penalty for the first 30 days; at 30 days a $25 penalty is added, a final notice goes out around day 65, and the ticket enters judgment around day 75. (official source)

Once a ticket is in judgment, interest is charged and the vehicle can be booted or towed. (official source)

A vehicle can be booted when the owner has $350 or more in parking or camera tickets in judgment, and towed if the debt is not paid within 48 hours of the boot. (official source)

For red-light notices: unpaid after 30 days brings a notice with a $25 penalty, a final notice 30 days later, and enforcement can begin 14 days after the final notice. (official source)

Contesting it

Request a hearing (online, by mail, by app or in person) within 30 days of the ticket to avoid late penalties; if you request one later and are found guilty, you also owe the penalties. (official source)

The city explains how to request a hearing on its official dispute page.

Payment plans and reduced fines

DOF offers payment plans for parking and camera judgment debt; a standard plan needs a 50% down payment on $50-$1,000 (25% above $1,000), interest keeps accruing, and enrolling can prevent booting or towing. (official source)

A moderate-income plan (adjusted gross income under $86,400) needs 15% down and can run up to 18 months; a hardship plan (e.g., unemployment) needs 5% down and can run up to 24 months. (official source)

Points and your record

Red-light and school-zone speed camera tickets add no points and are not reported to insurers; the registered owner is liable no matter who was driving. (official source)
